EDITOR’S NOTES
It was good to get back to Africa after Oz-lovely though it was, it’s nice to be paying for stuff in rand again! And after coming through our airports, I really think we can be proud of the places and the welcome afforded travellers. We don’t get hordes of them, and being so far away from major markets, we fortunately don’t suffer from the cheap package tour syndrome. This is rather comforting as one watches the collapse of one after the other UK and other tour organisers, and the resultant stranding of thousands. With winter coming in the North, there will be more. Many local suppliers and agencies have had tough times, despite-or because of-the footie, but SA and its neighbours have generally-and remarkably-avoided tourism bankruptcies. Long may that last!
The Rovos Rail presentation at Crystal Tower has certainly raised the bar for our sponsored lunches, which is excellent. There are still lunches waiting for sponsors, so if you are up to it, please contact Vernon. You don’t need huge technical stuff-just a small amount of cash, some wine and loads of enthusiasm, and the floor is yours!
See you at Panama Jacks!
